The Pacific nation of Tuvalu will be submerged by rising sea levels in a matter of decades. In a speech at COP27, created by The Monkeys, Accenture and partners Collider - Minister Simon Kofe announced his country’s radical plan for survival: Tuvalu will become the world’s first digital nation.

Minister Kofe’s speech was delivered from the first part of Tuvalu to be digitised, marking the beginning of a long process to recreate Tuvalu virtually and preserve its culture, place, identity, and statehood status under international law. Our aim for COP27 in launching the Digital Nation project was to ensure Tuvalu’s message could be heard on the world stage and provoke a reaction, and ultimately action to save the real Tuvalu. Visitors from over 118 countries around the world have shared letters with their local government at Tuvalu.tv so far, and by the end of COP27, the approval for a loss and damage fund to help poorer nations impacted by climate change had been granted. The project supporting the digital migration continues.
